British Canoeing continues to position TASS at the England Performance Squad stage in the pathway for able bodied athletes.
There is increasing evidence that the transition to senior international level is taking longer, especially for those who chose to continue with their education rather than train as full time athletes from age 18.
The first two years after a paddler’s junior career normally coincides with the start of University and often relocating. This is a difficult transition, from both a lifestyle and a canoeing perspective and is the age which sees significant drop out from the sport.
TASS provides the ability to support athletes through this period, helping them to retain motivation to continue in the sport. Similarly, TASS supports later developers and athletes who have not necessarily been part of British Canoeing junior programme, but that are emerging and making GB U23 teams.
