The University of Portsmouth aims to be the top modern university in the UK, and one of the top 100 young universities in the world, by 2030. Our objectives include ‘engaging every student in a life-changing experience’, and our sport scholarship programme is one of the ways in which we will achieve this, alongside the 30+ sports clubs that we have within our Performance Sport programme.

We are proud to have been awarded with TASS Dual Career accreditation. We are committed to providing an environment where talented athletes can reach their academic and sporting potential. In addition to academic flexibility and understanding, there is also a comprehensive programme of support through mentoring and workshops that provide strategies to balance student-athletes’ current lifestyle, and develop transferable skills for when they graduate. They also receive strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, sports massage, nutrition, and sports psychology support, as well as access to our new £50m sports facility, which has been rated as BREEAM Outstanding due to the sustainability and energy efficiency of the building.

We understand the pressures that student-athletes face when balancing their studies with the demands of their sport, and by fostering a dual-career ethos, we enable our student to obtain valuable skills and qualifications, while also competing at the highest level of sport. We have built a sense of community amongst the athletes on our sport scholarship programme, enabling them to share experiences and best practice in balancing their studies with a hectic sporting schedule.
