TASS Learning

Over the past 6 years TASS Learning has created and delivered a range of Athlete Personal Development and Lifestyle qualifications, which are nationally recognised and regulated by the awarding body 1st4Sport.

As the wider industry has grown and professionalised, TASS have added further qualifications to this portfolio which have now been delivered to learners from Professional Bodies such as the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Professional Footballers’ Association, FIBA, NGB’s such as the England Netball, ECB and UK Athletics. Courses have also been delivered to individuals in Player Care roles within Professional Football Clubs and Coaches and parents of talented athletes.

Qualification Description
  • Introduces the key concepts of athlete lifestyle and personal development support.
  • Enhances the learner’s understanding of how Lifestyle and Personal Development challenges can impact athletes,
  • Encourages the learner to reflect on what they could do in their current role to support an athlete’s lifestyle and personal development more effectively.

This qualification is suitable for a variety of stakeholders including coaches and staff within sport national governing bodies.

Delivery Format

Online delivery, 4-6 sessions dependent on daytime/evening delivery.
Sessions last between 2-3.5 hours.

Learner Pre-Requisites
  • Be accurately identified
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing)

Submission of a portfolio of knowledge based and reflective tasks.

Qualification Description
  • Provides learners with an understanding of the transitions that athletes may face across their careers.
  • Focuses on the demands and challenges experienced by athletes, and the support they may require.
  • Designed to allow learners to reflect on how they or their organisation can optimally support athletes through transitions.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who operates within the sporting environment particularly coaches, support practitioners and NGB staff.

Delivery Format
  • Online delivery, 5-8 sessions dependent on daytime/evening delivery.
  • Sessions last between 3-5 hours.

  • Transition theory
  • Athlete support and coping during transition
  • Educational transitions and athlete migration
  • Junior to senior transition
  • Athletic retirement
  • Unique athlete & performance pathway transitions
Learner Pre-Requisites
  • Be accurately identified
  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing)
  • be in a role that involves either directly or indirectly working with athletes (desirable)
Assessments

Learners will complete a series of knowledge check tasks including:

  • Long/short answer questions
  • Case study tasks
  • Multiple choice
  • Reflective practise tasks

Qualification Description
  • APDL replaces the highly successful TALS qualification that has been delivered over the past 10 years.  APDL has been designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in Athlete Personal Development or Athlete Lifestyle Support but is suitable for other similar roles such as Player Care and Player Development.
  • The sporting community has established a number of expectations relating to practitioners’ knowledge, skills, conduct and behaviour that must be understood and supported by everybody, This qualification has been designed to enable learners to study both the theoretical and practical aspects of the supporting and coaching process, and helps the learner reach these expected and necessary levels of professional practice.
Delivery Format

4 days of in-person delivery.

  • The Role of an Athlete Personal Development Practitioner
  • Coaching Theory and Undertaking Coaching with Athletes
  • Sporting Pathways and Athlete Transitions
  • Athlete Personal Development and Personal Development Opportunities
  • Athlete and Practitioner Wellbeing
  • Evaluating and Developing own Practice as a Practitioner
Learner Pre-Requisites
  • Be accurately identified
  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Learners must hold a recognised and valid Safeguarding qualification.
  • Learners must also have access to at least one athlete who has given consent for the outcome of their personal development sessions to be documented and shared anonymously for assessment purposes.
Assessments

Learners will:

  • Complete a series of written tasks, and evidence professional practice within a learner portfolio.
  • Undertake a recorded athlete meeting demonstrating their ability to create an appropriate meeting environment and communication/coaching skills.
  • Complete a professional discussion with the course tutor to demonstrate their subject knowledge.
  • Record their reflections of their own personal practice and development.

This dynamic online module offers a basic introduction to athlete lifestyle support and is aimed at anyone who has an interest in the area e.g., athletes, parents, coaches, practitioners, NGB/university staff.

The module covers the following areas:

  • What is Lifestyle Support?
  • A lifestyle advisor’s role within an athlete’s support network
  • A lifestyle advisor’s expectations and boundaries
  • Benefits and challenges of a balanced lifestyle
  • Maximising Lifestyle Support

This module is self-guided and should take approximately 2 hours, and costs £20.00.
