CGE ATHLETE AMBASSADORS ANNOUNCED FOR GOLD COAST 2018

Commonwealth Games England (CGE) has unveiled an Athlete Ambassador programme ahead of Gold Coast 2018, in addition to revealing plans to create the best performance environment for the team.

Of the 25 Team England Ambassadors, eight athletes from a variety of sports have benefitted from TASS support during their sporting careers.

The Ambassadors will work closely with CGE to raise the profile of Team England and its values, develop a strong ethos amongst athletes, the organisation and the nation, and prepare the team for the 2018 Games.

Hockey’s George Pinner (TASS 2005-07) and Sam Ward (TASS 2011/12), badminton’s Lauren Smith (TASS 2009/10), volleyball’s Chris Gregory (TASS 2008-11), Olympic bronze medallist Kristian Thomas (TASS 2005-07), netball’s Jo Harten (TASS 2006/07), rugby sevens player Phil Burgess (TASS 2007/08) and Paralympic gold medalist Will Bayley (TASS 2005-09) are the TASS alumni who have been selected.

Colin Allen, TASS National Lead for Sport who attended the CGE Annual General Meeting yesterday, said:

“We’re thrilled that a number of former TASS athletes have been chosen for the Team England Athlete Ambassador programme, and we’re positive that they will thrive in their new role.

“The lead up to the Games is a really exciting time so we’ll be getting behind all the selected athletes as they prepare to represent their country at the Gold Coast”
