TALS Qualification

Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (TALS)
 
The Level 3 TALS is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with TASS. The aim of the qualification is to provide mentors with an introduction to the principles of supporting and mentoring talented athletes. It is designed to cover both theoretical and practical aspects of the the mentoring process.
 
Qualification structure
The TALS programme comprises of five mandatory units of study. To achieve the qualification, you must attend a programme of training and successfully complete all the assessed components.
 
Unit 1: Mentoring within the performance environment                                                                      Unit 2: Developing networks within the performance environment
Unit 3: Working with the athlete in the performance environment
Unit 4: Athlete transitions
Unit 5: Supporting the talented athlete

Qualification details
 
Progression
Holders of this award may wish to gain further experience of supporting talented athletes. A number of continuous professional development (CPD) sessions will be on offer to holders of the award and it is recommended they undertake two CPD sessions per annum.
 
Holders may also wish to progress to undergraduate or post graduate degrees in talented athlete lifestyle support related subject areas such as sports performance, applied sports science and sports psychology. EIS and UK Sport are currently developing a masters degree programme.
