Hi!

My name is Kira Roberts and I am 22 years old. I am currently doing a masters in English at University College, Durham University. I started fencing at Trinity School, Teignmouth, Devon with my coach Jan Lacey. I started competing in 2005. Since then I have progressed to compete nationally and internationally for women’s sabre at both Senior, Junior (U20) and cadet (U17) level. This involves travelling across the UK, all over Europe and outside Europe regularly to compete as part of the Junior Women’s sabre team. In 2006 I was selected to represent Great Britain in the Cadet World Championships and was also the reserve for the Junior team. I am currently training with Laszlo Jakob, a nationally reknown Hungarian coach.

I am currently a TASS (Talented Athlete Sponsorship Scheme) scholar. I believe I have the ability and will to succeed. The fact that I am one of two people in the top 10 who isn’t training full time and am still completing a masters degree course whilst managing to stay in the top 10 shows my level of commitment to what I believe in. I have ambition and total dedication to my sport. I believe that I represent it well and fence with style and good technique.

In the next year my plans are – to get some good results and, by so doing, to qualify for the World Championships next year.
