Caragh McMurtry Athlete Profile

Hi, my name is Caragh McMurtry, and I am a second year student studying Archaeology and Classics at Reading University! I am currently trialling for the U23 World Rowing Championships at the end of this academic year, and will also be looking to represent the University at FISU this summer. I’ve been to both the Junior and U23 World Rowing Champs before, and I hope to make it into the Senior squad sometime soon!

My preferred boat is the women’s pair, but I do like coxless fours and have also rowed in many coxed fours and eights. I much prefer rowing over sculling, and admit that I need to work on the latter to make it into the Senior squad! I used to row for a coastal rowing club (Southampton Coalporters) and will never forget my roots!! I believe the years I spent rowing on the coast have provided me with the real grit that has helped me to succeed so far.
